Questions

What people ask before they trust us.

If your question isn't here, ask it at your consultation. We'd rather you know everything before you deposit anything.

Storage

What can I store?

Most things that fit in an archival box and will last on their own: letters, photographs, jewelry, watches, porcelain collectibles, documents, recordings, small textiles, and keepsakes. If you're unsure about something, bring it up at your consultation.

What can't you store?

Perishables, anything living, liquids, hazardous or flammable materials, firearms and ammunition, cash, and anything illegal to possess. We also decline items we can't insure.

Will a USB drive or disc still work in fifty years?

Probably not. File formats and hardware age faster than paper. We recommend printing important photographs and transcribing recordings to store alongside any drive or disc, and we can advise on durable formats at your consultation.

Are my items insured?

Yes, while in storage and while in transit. Each registry is covered for the agreed value recorded at deposit, up to $250,000, under a fine-art and collectibles policy. Higher limits are available for larger collections.

Beneficiaries

What happens if I die before the term ends?

The term continues, and we deliver to your named beneficiary on the release date. If you'd rather your items be released at your death, you can choose that when you set up your registry.

Can I change my beneficiary?

Yes, at any time, in writing. You can also name an alternate in case the first recipient can't be reached.

What if you can't find my beneficiary?

We start with the contact details on file and any alternates you've named. From there, our staff use public records together with our own database and other available resources to track down recipients, even decades later. We have a 96% success rate in finding recipients! In the rare case that no one can be reached, we follow the instructions in your agreement, which usually means returning the items to your estate.

The long run

Can I get my things back early?

Yes. Early release is available on request. Inquire for details.

What if I move?

Tell us whenever it happens, and we'll update your record. We also check in once a year to confirm current addresses for you and your beneficiaries. If we ever lose touch, our staff use public records together with our own database and other available resources to find you.

What if The Heirloom Registry closes?

Your storage agreement includes a succession plan. If we ever wind down, your items are either transferred to a successor custodian under the same terms or returned to you or your beneficiary, at no cost to you.
